Johns first interest in painting came at the age of 10 when he entered a school easter card competition, and won first prize, which inspired him to carry on painting. when he was 12 -for christmas he was given a set of oil paints and an easel which opened a whole new world to him.
He then enrolled in painting classes at weekends for about 2 years, he then took his interest even further and enrolled in an evening course where he was introduced to figure painting and pop art.
due to the need to earn a living john had to put painting on a back burner. he married ran his own small business for 25 years still painting in his spare time.
it wasn't till the mid 1990's when he went back to art in serious way
